About Michael
Who Am I?
My name is Michael Meltzer. I'm in my 40's and live near Yonge and Lawrence with my wife and twin son and daughter. I’m the broker and owner of Advocate Realty. I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to entering the real estate field, I practised law at a downtown law firm, doing mostly real estate litigation, and then worked as an independent business consultant. I obtained my real estate license in 1992 and formed Advocate Realty in 1995. Of course, I’m a member of the Toronto Real Estate Board and the Ontario and Canadian Real Estate Associations.
Why did I switch from law to real estate?
This was an easy decision because I never actually planned on practising law. I always wanted to go into business. I decided to obtain a law degree and get called to the bar because I thought that law would be good background for business. As fate would have it, I ended up practising at a downtown law firm for a few years, doing mostly real estate litigation. I then decided that it was time to start my business career. I chose real estate because I really enjoy working with people, I love looking at houses and I felt that my legal experience would benefit my clients and give me an advantage over my competition.
My Mission
When I formed Advocate Realty in 1995 my objective was to create a residential real estate brokerage that would get it right. A place where you could go and feel confident that you would be taken great care of, that your needs would be met and that your best interests would come first. Our primary goal at Advocate Realty has always been to give you the best service and treatment that you have ever had as a consumer. Not just from other real estate companies, but from any other company. Period. Why? Because we want to make sure that you are so happy with us that you will be eager to refer us to all your friends, relatives and neighbours. Hopefully, your visit here will show you how we can help make your next move as pressure free, enjoyable and profitable as possible!
In which areas do I work?
To do an excellent job, an agent has to have a certain level of expertise. Since Toronto is such a large city, the best way to obtain that expertise is to specialize. That’s why I specialize in residential real estate in central Toronto (from Bloor up to the 401). Some of the neighbourhoods with which I am intimately familiar are Yonge & Lawrence, John Ross Robertson, Lawrence Park, Lytton Park, the Cricket Club, Wanless Park, Allenby, Moore Park, Leaside, Chaplin Estates, Forest Hill, Cedarvale, Yonge & Eglinton and Yonge & St. Clair. If it’s your first home or your tenth home, if it’s a house or a condo, if the price is $200,000 or $5 million, I can help you!
How will my background and experience help you?
Honesty, Integrity and Professionalism.
As a professional, there are certain principles I really believe in. Your best interests will always be put above all else, especially the potential for personal gain. Your confidential information will not be disclosed. Your questions will be answered honestly. Your phone calls will be returned promptly. And you will never be pressured. Ever! You will simply be given the information you need, together with impartial advice, to make the decisions which are best for you.
Outstanding Service and Personal Attention.
My goal is to ensure that you are so happy with my services that you will be eager to refer me to your friends, relatives and neighbours. Wouldn’t you prefer to work with someone who focuses on high quality service rather than on high volume?
Neighbourhood Expertise.
Are you looking for an agent with particular expertise in your neighbourhood or an agent who has only general knowledge of your neighbourhood?
Legal Experience.
My negotiating skills and understanding of the agreement of purchase and sale will help you get the best deal possible.
Proven Track Record.
Over the past eleven years, my clients have sold their homes in an average of 11.87 days for 102.78% of list price. This is 4.96% more dollars and 26.55 fewer days than the average seller in central Toronto (based on Toronto Real Estate Board statistics). What does this mean? Well, the 4.96% more dollars means an extra $49,600 on a home listed at $1,000,000 and the 26.55 fewer days means three and a half fewer weeks of inconvenience while your home is on the market.
My Team
Sue Pink
Sue and I have been working together since 1996. We met while taking the real estate licensing courses in 1991. At that time, Sue impressed me as someone with a lot of integrity who cared about people and who wasn’t getting into real estate just for the money. Since then, she’s impressed me even more. Sue has raised 3 children so she knows what a growing family needs in a home. She has also worked as an interior designer, having been involved in designing and renovating kitchens, bathrooms, family room additions, basements, etc. Sue uses her experience to provide you with great advice. Like me, she’s totally committed to making sure that our clients are happy. You might speak to one of us more than the other, but we work as a team so we both know what’s going on with all of Advocate’s clients at all times. With two people working for you, you’ll always have someone with whom you are totally comfortable available to take great care of you if one of us gets tied up or goes out of town.
Daina Medeiros
Daina has been in real estate since 1990. She began her real estate career as a licensed sales representative, but switched to the administrative side of the business when she started her family because she preferred the more regular schedule of an administrator to the crazy hours worked by most sales representatives. Daina joined Advocate Realty in 1999 and has been our office administrator and my right hand since then. Thanks to her experience as a sales representative and to her lengthy real estate career, she is extremely knowledgeable and familiar with all the ins and outs of the real estate business, as well as exceptionally professional, organized, polite and cheerful. Daina is an extremely important member of our team whom you will undoubtedly grow to appreciate as much as we do.
