Appreciation Trumps $$$

Peggy: You never say thank you.

Don: That’s what your paycheque is for.

Michael (in a rare cameo appearance): Don, money’s not enough. People want to feel appreciated for what they do and a paycheque doesn’t do that. In my books, saying please and thank you and being honest, considerate, respectful and grateful are the signs of a good relationship, whether it be of the personal or professional nature. I work on commission, but I really work for the appreciation of my clients. That’s why I selectively look for clients who will appreciate me, like the client who wrote me this letter (see below). Letters like this make my day! I know your good looks open a lot of doors for you, but you should try appreciating the people around you more. You may go even further.

“Hi Michael,

….She cherished your friendship and all the help you have given her with life documents and making contacts with the necessary people overseas—  she constantly talked about that!!!!   It was our pleasure too — on getting to know you over the past year.— all the hard work you put into getting the house sold. I certainly will recommend you to my friends  and others that are interested in putting their homes on the market down the road.  Should we need to put our house up for sale — I would certainly  be in contact with you!!!

Again,  thank you for your kindness, thoughtfulness and guidance through this past year.”
