Real Estate Yoga

There’s already laughing yoga, smiling yoga, hot yoga, naked yoga and countless other types of yoga, so why not real estate yoga?

I’m not kidding, but I’m not suggesting you start doing headstands on your roof. I’ve been selling real estate for over 20 years and practicing yoga for over 16 years and I take both very seriously. What I’m suggesting is that you try to bring a little of the yoga state of mind into the real estate part of your brain because it’ll make you a much happier camper.

Too many people get overly stressed about buying or selling their home. In most instances, buying a new home should be a fun and exciting time. It’s hard to have fun when you’re not sleeping at night. Making a move also usually involves a major financial decision. Being stressed just makes it more difficult to come to the right decision.

Over the years, I’ve come to the realizaton that things work out best for the people who approach their moves with a relaxed, positive attitude. They don’t try to convince themselves that every home they see is the right one for them by asking themselves “how can I make this home work for me?”. When they walk into the home that’s right for them, they know it because they get a certain feeling. When a house doesn’t give them that feeling, they don’t spend a lot of time looking at or thinking about that house. They move on. Similarly, when they’re selling their homes, they do everything possible to make their homes show as well as possible, but they understand that not every person who looks at their home is going to want to buy it. It’s a matter of the the right buyer, the one who gets that certain feeling, coming to look at it at the right time. This could happen on the first day or it could happen in a month, but they know that it WILL happen and that it’s just a matter of time. Sweating over it isn’t going to help things one bit.

Remember, patience is a virtue. Good things come to those that wait. I’m sure there are other suitable platitudes for the situation, but I’ll leave you with this one: Breathe in deeply. Exhale fully. Relax. And bring a little yoga into your real estate. Namaste.
